EMERGENCY ANNOUNCEMENT
In order to accommodate you and other prospective racers – your safety and your comfort – we’ve decided to postpone the race to next Saturday, August 27, 2016. We will hold this race before another race scheduled for that morning in Arlington, TX. It would be double the FUN – provided the weather cooperates this time.

Sorry, it won’t be a 5K or a 1 Mile. But the alternative 2 Mile and 1K are still fun and challenging distances. Plus, the terrific, not-so-demanding but exciting distance of 2 Miles course (and 1K course) will feature a mix of mild uphills and mild downhills, encompassing & reflecting the challenge & heat of Summer versus the refreshing & cooler weathers of Fall – that’s on the way. Something different. Somewhat novel. Come give it a try!

Jeph Abara has been battling a few major and minor health problems throughout the past few years. For all of us that have had the privilage to meet Jeph and interact with him knows he has always had a big heart for charities, He has puts on/organized numerous of running/ road racing events throughout the DFW area and always support and donate all of the net procedes to local charites.

On Tuesday, July 26th Jeph was admitted into a local hostpital and he had to have a major surgrical operation that will change his life forever. He is now on a long road to recovery. With this said, I will like to ask everyone to please donate whatever you find in your hearts to do so to help him and his family throughout this challenging time in their lives.
I am also in the process of conducting a race that will be called "Race for Jeph." It will be August 20, 2016. I will keep everyone posted on the final details. Jeph has organized several races for different people/families that has experienced various medical crises and memorial runs.
Again, please donate if you are able to. No amount is too small!

PERSONAL Message from Jeph Abara below:
As I continue this recovery journey, my family and I wish to thank all of you who have sent encouragement, prayers and verbal/material support. My special thanks to my friends, Ricky & Demery Cox, for stepping in to offer a helping hand.
In simple terms, let me try to explain my medical situation. Over the last several weeks, I have had to deal with two causes and two outcomes and conditions. From my lung cancer treatment, I developed pericardial effusion – excess fluid around the heart. This put extra pressure on my heart and compromised its effectiveness resulting in fatigue, weakness and muscle aches. The other cause was that three vertebrae in my lower back (weakened from a previous radiation treatment in Sept. 2014) collapsed after another radiation treatment on vertebra T4 in March this year. This created tremendous pressure on my lower back and has partially paralyzed my right leg. The treatments? On July 1 – with surgery #1 - we drained the excess fluid around the heart and, thank God, my energy level is back to normal. Then on July 26 – with a very dangerous & delicate surgery #2 – we cleaned out the compressed vertebrae, replaced them with screws and stabilized my lower back. We now begin the slow recovery to restore my legs to normal function. I pray and hope for success on that journey. So that’s where we are.
Ricky and Demery, bless the, have begun organizing a race and a GoFund drive. I would love to have these be a celebratory endeavor for all of us to participate in together and at once reach out and share. As many people know, I’m (or used to be, ha ha!) an avid racer and that’s where my passion really resides. So I have proposed that we suspend the GoFund and concentrate on the race where, if possible, we can meet face to face and celebrate together. Donations can still be made through the race. The plan is to have this event be a substantial conduit for funds to share with entities (Arlington Charities, St. Alban’s Episcopal outreach at AISD’s Crow Elementary and SafeHaven of Tarrant County) whose charity races I had cancelled for this year as I recuperate. And we thank you in advance.
